The residence of Oishi Kuranosuke, the main character of Chushingura

Gate of the residence of chief retainer of Ako, the Asano family for three generations. The residence was huge, with 308 tatami mats in size.Hayami Tozaemon and Kayano Sanpei, who rushed to deliver the news of Asano Takumi no Kami's sword cut incident are said to have knocked the Nagayamon gate. In1729, most part of the building was lost by fire, but the Nagayamon gate remained. It has gone through repairs, and remains in the castle as a rare and valuable architectural structure of the Edo era.
