Ikitsugi Ido (historical well related to Ako gishi)
The well where Ako gishi took a rest on their way back to Ako from Edo
To deliver the news of the sword cut incident by Asano Takumi no Kami, Ako retainers Hayami Tozaemon and Kayano Sanpei left Edo in palanquin on the evening of March 14, on the 14th year of the Genroku era. They arrived at the foot of Ako Castle on March 19, early in the morning. The two retainers are said to have traveled approximately 620 kilometers in 4 days and a half, taking a rest drinking water from this well. The well is called by its current name ever since.
