Temple noted in connection with the Asano clan and Ako gishi

Zen temple of the Soto school with Eiheiji as head temple.Had been constructed by the order of Asano Naganao in1645, and became the family temple for the Nagai family and Mori family who became lords of the clan after the Genroku Incident.In the shrine's precinct are the graves of the Forty-seven Ronin, treasure chamber, and wooden statues of the gishi, making it a historic site noted in connection with the Ako gishi.Ako Castle's Shioya Somon gate has been transferred here and became the temple's gate and had been designated as Ako City's cultural asset. It is the 31st Shinsaigoku spot and 7th Setouchi spot for Kansai Kannon Pilgrimage.
